The Higher Education Committee held its scheduled meeting on June 10, 2024. Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr. chaired the meeting. All members were present except Regent Catherine Collins, Regent James E. Cottrell, and Regent Susan W. Mittler who were excused. Regent Roger Tilles, Regent Adrian I. Hale, Regent Hasoni L. Pratts, and Regent Seema Rivera also attended the meeting but did not vote on any action.
ACTION ITEMS
Charter Amendments and Extension of Provisional Authorization to Offer Programs Leading to Postsecondary Degrees: Glasgow Caledonian New York College [HE (A) 1 - REVISED] - Department staff presented an overview of a proposed transaction between Glasgow Caledonian New York College and IE Universidad and recommend actions relating to the institution’s charter and degree-conferring authority.
The Committee recommends that the Board of Regents approve Glasgow Caledonian New York College’s amended and restated charter, effective upon the closing date of a Member Substitution Agreement by and between Glasgow Caledonian University and IE Universidad, and extend the institution’s provisional authorization to offer programs leading to postsecondary degrees until June 30, 2029.
MATTERS NOT REQUIRING BOARD ACTION
The Path Forward Literacy Instruction Initiative in New York State - Department staff and guests presented an overview of the Hunt Institute’s The Path Forward initiative in New York State, where the goal of this work is to transform literacy instruction in the state by embedding the science of reading into educator preparation programs and certification.
Deputy Commissioner William Murphy reviewed the items on the Consent Agenda.
