The Higher Education Committee held its scheduled meeting on January 8, 2024.  All members were present except Regent Catherine Collins, Regent Susan W. Mittler and Regent Aramina Vega Ferrer who were excused. Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr., chaired the meeting. 

MATTERS NOT REQUIRING BOARD ACTION

Update on the Statewide Plan for Higher Education - Department staff provided information on the proposed composition of the Advisory Council, the topics that the sectors will consider in writing their master plans, and a working timeline for developing the plan.

Proposed Amendment of Section 3.59 of the Rules of the Board of Regents Relating to Provisions for Mergers, Consolidation, and Membership with Highly Qualified Out-of-State Institutions of Higher Education [HE (D) 1] - Department staff presented proposed amendments to provide for a streamlined approach to mergers, consolidations, and memberships with highly qualified out-of-state Institutions of Higher Education.   

Deputy Commissioner William Murphy reviewed the items on the Consent Agenda.
