Action Items
Action on Proposed Amendments to the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Relating to Renewals of Provisional Certificates and Reissuances of Initial Certificates. Your Committee approved amendments to sections 80-1.7 and 80-1.8 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education related to renewals of provisional certificates and reissuances of initial certificates. This amendment will become effective January 30, 2013.
Action on Proposed Amendments to sections 80-3.3, 80-3.7 and 80-5.6 related to individual evaluation and teaching assistant certification. Your Committee approved amendments to sections 80-3.3, 80-3.7 and 80-5.6 of the Regulations of the Commissioner related to individual evaluation and the requirements for Level III teaching assistants. This amendment will become effective January 30, 2013.
MOTION FOR ACTION BY FULL BOARD
Madam Chancellor and Colleagues: Your Higher Education Committee recommends, and we move, that the Board of Regents act affirmatively upon each recommendation in the written report of the Committee’s deliberations at its meeting on January 15, 2013, copies of which have been distributed to each member of the Board of Regents.
Other matters not requiring action:
Update on Teacher Preparation Support Program. With the implementation of the new certification examinations, your Committee received an update on the edTPA and what work that has been done to inform the field of the requirements of the examination, the resources available and the next steps.
Proposed amendments to Section 3.12 and Subpart 4-1. Your Committee discussed proposed amendments to Section 3.12 and Subpart 4-1 related to voluntary institutional accreditation for Title IV purposes. The proposed changes will help ensure technical alignment with federal requirements for institutional accrediting agencies. We anticipate that the regulations will be brought to this Committee for approval at the April 2013 meeting.
Proposed amendments to Section 52.21 and Part 80 and the addition of a new Subpart 57-4. Your Committee discussed proposed amendments related to requirements for coursework or training in harassment, bullying and discrimination prevention and intervention as prescribed by the Dignity for All Students Act. The Committee requested further information and it is anticipated that this item will be back before the Committee at the February meeting.
