Items Not Requiring Action
edTPA Safety Net Regulations. Your Committee discussed amending Sections 80-3.3, 80-3.4 and 80-5.13 of the Commissioner’s Regulations to extend the deadline for a teaching candidate to apply for and meet the requirements for certification if he/she wishes to take advantage of the Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) safety net. It is anticipated that the proposed amendment will be come before the Board of Regents for action at the April 2015 meeting.
Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Regulations. Your Committee discussed amending Section 145-2.2 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education to establish standards for a student to meet to be reinstated to the status of good academic standing in order to resume receiving awards that were previously suspended under the Tuition Assistance Program? It is anticipated that the proposed amendment will come before the Board of Regents for action at the April 2015 Regents meeting.
State Authorization and Reciprocity. Your Committee held a discussion with representatives from SUNY, CUNY, cIcu, and the Association of Proprietary Colleges (APC) about the regulations known as state authorization that would require institutions that provide on-line courses or entire on-line programs to students outside of its home state to obtain permission from those states. States that sign the agreement would allow any accredited institution from another member state to provide on-line courses or on-line programs in its state, and in return any accredited institutions in its state would be allowed to offer on-line courses and programs to students in other states that have signed the agreement.
