Education Law requires that the Board of Regents appoint the Superintendent of the New York State School for the Blind.
Background Information
In June 2005, the Board, at the recommendation of the Board of Visitors and approved by the Commissioner of Education consistent with Education Law, §4307(1), appointed Mr. Knowles to serve as Interim Superintendent to ensure adequate on-site management and leadership at the State School until a permanent appointment could be recommended to the Board.
Recommendation
I recommend that the Board of Regents extend the appointment of James L. Knowles as Interim Superintendent of the New York State School for the Blind, for the period June 23, 2007 – August 29, 2008.
Timetable for Implementation
The appointment of James L. Knowles as Interim Superintendent of the New York State School for the Blind will become effective on June 23, 2007.
