SUMMARY:
Marge Tierney, an employee in the State Education Department since 1979, died tragically in August 2003. Marges 33-year professional career was centered on the vocational rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities, ensuring that they received the services needed to obtain employment. There could be no finer tribute to Marge than to establish a scholarship award in her name for an individual with a disability wishing to pursue a career in vocational rehabilitation.
Colleagues and friends of Marge have made contributions to an endowment to be established in her name. I recommend the creation of an endowment, which will support an annual award to be called the Marge A. Tierney Scholarship Award.
VOTED: That the University of the State of New York accept contributions made for the purpose of establishing the Marge A. Tierney Scholarship Award, the income of which will be awarded to an individual with a disability pursing a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and that such award is hereby established.
