Hasoni L. Pratts
Biography
Hasoni L. Pratts was elected by a joint session of the Legislature to the Board of Regents to serve a one-year term representing the Second Judicial District (Brooklyn), beginning March 2024.
Born into a military family, Pratts spent her formative years navigating different cultures and communities, instilling in her a sense of adaptability, empathy, and a strong work ethic from an early age. Hasoni comes from a long legacy of service members dating back to the Civil War. Regent Pratts journey exemplifies resilience, dedication, and a deep commitment to service.
Pratts is a remarkable leader, advocate, and devoted public school parent, and seasoned strategist of government, policy, not-for-profit, higher education, and equality.
Upon graduating from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University, Regent Pratts started her career at Deloitte in New York City. She served as the National Director for Say Yes to Education where she expanded access to higher education and empowered public school students and their families from diverse backgrounds in achieving their academic and career goals.
As an elected PTA officer, Regent Pratts assisted with fundraising efforts to increase enrichment programs, after school programs, library services, and arts education. As a public school parent, she has volunteered as a reading buddy, lunch monitor, tutor, and assistant in the library.
Beyond her work on the Board of Regents, Pratts serves as a Senior Advisor at the National Urban League, where she leverages her expertise in education and advocacy to advance the organization's mission of empowering underserved communities and promoting social and economic justice.
Despite her numerous professional commitments, Pratts remains deeply rooted in her community and her family. She is the mother of five and grandmother of four. She resides in Brooklyn with her husband, Michael, and their son and daughter, where they are actively involved in community organizations and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of families and children across the city. Regent Pratts is a graduate of Harvard University with a Master’s in Public Administration.
