Your Higher Education Committee held its scheduled meeting on February 14, 2012. All members were present except Chancellor Emeritus Bennett and Vice Chancellor Cofield.
Action Items
Proposed Amendments to the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Relating to the Eligibility
Criteria for the Tuition Assistance Program. Your Committee discussed amending sections 145-2.1, 145-2.2
and 145-2.4 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education relating to the eligibility criteria for the
Tuition Assistance Program. VOTED: That sections 145-2.1, 145-2.2 and 145-2.4 of the Regulations of the
Commissioner of Education be amended as submitted. If adopted at the February meeting, the proposed
amendment will become effective on March 7, 2012.
Conceptual Approval of Schedule for New Certification Examinations for Teachers and School Leaders.
Your Committee discussed changing the schedule for implementation of the new certification examinations for teachers and schools leaders in order to enable program administrators and faculty to adjust their curricula and prepare their candidates to pass the new exams. Your Committee agreed to extend the deadline.
Discussion Items: Items not requiring Board action
Tenured Teacher Hearings (Education Law §3020-a Reform). Your Committee discussed the Governor’s proposed changes to the 3020a process and how those changes align to the Board’s legislative priority on this issue.
MOTION FOR ACTION BY FULL BOARD
Madam Chancellor and Colleagues: Your Higher Education Committee recommends, and we move, that the Board of Regents act affirmatively upon each recommendation in the written report of the Committee’s deliberations at its meeting on February 14, 2012, copies of which have been distributed to each Regents.
