MATTERS NOT REQUIRING BOARD ACTION
Mandate Relief and Flexibility - The Committee discussed a set of draft mandate relief options intended to increase flexibility and reduce requirements in ways that do not adversely impact the health and safety of students and essential elements of education reform. The Regents discussed options related to special education, school operations including school facilities and pupil transportation, curriculum and instruction and teacher certification. Staff will come back in March for a more detailed discussion of specific recommendations.
Executive Proposal on State Aid to School Districts – The Committee discussed the 2011-12 Executive budget which proposes $19.4 billion in funding for General Support for Public Schools – a year to year reduction of $1.5 billion compared to the previous year as supplemented with federal funding restorations.
That concludes our report.
