SUMMARY:
The State University of New York Board of Trustees has petitioned the Regents for authority to confer the Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree at the State University of New York at Binghamton. At Binghamton, the trustees now award doctoral and graduate degrees including the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Science (M.S.), and Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.).
SUNY Binghamton has requested registration of a licensure-qualifying Social Work program leading to the Master of Social Work degree. The proposed program will replace an inter-institutional Social Science/Social Work program leading to the M.A./M.S.W. degrees awarded by SUNY Binghamton and SUNY Albany, respectively. The Office of the Professions has determined that the proposed programs would meet the standards for registration in the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.
I recommend that the Regents take the following action:
VOTED, that the State University of New York Board of Trustees be authorized, effective April 29, 2003, to confer the degree of Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) on students successfully completing registered programs at the State University of New York at Binghamton.
